DEADHEAD
#4
Not
bad at all. This Malaysian fanzine chose the massive
way to crush your head with long and quite detailed
interviews that could remind BLOOD OF THE ANCIENT Zine
(Sleep or R.i.p?) or VOICES FROM THE DARKSIDE. The fatter
one dealing with IMPETIGO (17 pages written in small
characters) that turns out to be great even if you're
not a big fan of the band. Of course you'll also find
normal-length interviews (Rabbath Amon, Black fire...)
but those of HEADHUNTER D.C., INSIDE, TRANSGRESSOR ,
NOCTURNAL VOMIT or LEVIFER aren't particularly short... There
are also some reviews, but it's not the strongest force
of DEADHEAD. The layout was all computer made, looks
clean and serious, but also cool because of the cool
morbid drawings in the margins (Reminds of the zines
published around 1998, and shows it can be metal and
old school without falling into the "Dumb'n paste"
trap) To deal with the negative aspects, I'd say
his English isn't "perfect" (But it's understandable
and I saw really worse from South East Asia), and reviews
could be a bit more critical. To conclude, if you
have money left and need more fanzines, look at the
summary of interviews and decide if it fits your tastes.
This issue wouldn't be a disappointment if you're interested
in underground metal. Ps: He also runs a tape label.
