Some short history from the band: (official)
Well the
band Entrails took their first tones around ..1991 in.. a small converted
woodshed in the village Linneryd outside Växjö (SWE) with former mates Fredde,
Tobbe, Billy and I, Jimmy. I and my friend Fredde started the band Entrails at
the end of 1990. We began to do some own material while we tried to gather
together a death metal band. After a while we got hold of Tobbe and Billy who
joined the band. Heavily influenced by Swedish death metal and thrash we
rehearsal to learn songs that I had done before the band took shape. After
persistent head banging in woodshed we went to a studio and recorded a few
songs, but quality became bad, so there was never any demo made at that time.
After some further bad recordings in a studio, and a little gig at a selection
of musik direkt the half set of the band lost their interest, so we decided to
close the band. You can say that the band died before it became something. After
the band's maturity, there was only I who brought the band further on, but I
lost interest and after a few years (1998?) the band died completely.
After a few years the resurrection was a fact.
I was too nostalgic and said to myself that: Now, many years after the band
died, my old songs must be recorded and a demo shall be made, so I started the
band again on my own.. After looking for songs of my old material from 1990, I
found 10 songs that I wanted to use for my first demo. (There was plenty of
songs to choose from) 2009 my home-studio was built and I could finally get
started with the demo. It became a minor stop when the songs were done when I
realised that I had no vocals in them. Fortunately, a friend to me (matte)
arranged a singer named Jocke Svensson (Birdflesh, Litania, Devilry) who helped
me and made the death growl that I wanted. And after mixing, now after almost 20
years, at last, Entrails full-length-demo "Reborn .." is done.
Why the title? Cause Entrails is now reborn!!!
After some official facts, here we go with the album
"Reborn".
The first song (intro) sounds like a nice horror movie
theme, harmonic piano, demonic voices and spooky synths. Evil Obsession is the
real first track and sounds really heavy. Entrails plays cool and groovy old
school death metal with some melodic / thrashy influences. Blast attacks and
fine double bass parts included. As you have read the band was formed in the
very early 90´ies, and that is to hear in the album. Also the „swedish origin“
plays a great role in their songs. Really cool songrwiting. All the gyus know
waht they´re doing on their instruments, appropiate to the muscial style come
really deep fucked up grunts and nice demonic screams out of the boxes. The band
is far away from simple songwriting and there are some rythmical surprises in
the songs.
Well done! For all fans of old school (Sweden) death, check it out! Paul

Dass Gab von Nihilistic Holocaust immer wieder lecker Undergrounstoff ans
Tageslicht befördert, ist längst kein Geheimnis mehr. Erst im Sommer bemusterte
er mich der coolen "Vision Of The Vultures" Demo-Cd-r von HEAVING EARTH und dem
nicht minder gelungenen NECROS/ABNORM Split-Tape und jetzt, im Herbst 2009, hat
er schon wieder zugeschlagen. Dieses Mal serviert er klassischen Elchtod, der
bei mir ein fast schon nostalgisches Feeling aufkommen lässt, weil er mich daran
erinnert wie es damals (vor mittlerweile unzähligen Monden) war, als ich zum
ersten Mal mit schwedischem Death Metal in Berührung kam und von Monolithen wie
"Left Hand Path", "Like An Everflowing Stream", "Where No Life Dwells" oder
"Into The Grave" geradezu erschlagen wurde. Ja, das waren noch Zeiten! ENTRAILS
bzw. das, was von ihnen anno 2009 noch übrig ist, klingen nicht nur nach alter
Schule, nein, sie sind old school as fuck! Oder wie würdet ihr es bezeichnen,
wenn eine Band bereits um 1990 herum aus der Taufe gehoben wurde??? Da stellt
sich einem/r natürlich die Frage, warum bislang nicht allzu viel bzw. jahrelang
überhaupt nichts von diesen alten Haudegen zu hören war. Wen/welche das

Ich hingegen will mich jetzt einfach mal auf das "Reborn"-Demo beschränken. Die
11 darauf verwursteten Tracks stammen aus den ENTRAILS-Gründertagen und wurden
vom einzig verbliebenen Bandmitglied Jimmy in 2009 neu eingespielt. Dies
passierte in seinem Homestudio, (fast) komplett in Eigenregie und unter
Zuhilfenahme eines Drumcomputers. Für den Gesang konnte Jocke (u.a. BIRDFLESH,
LITANIA und DEVILRY) verpflichtet werden und dessen Organ passt eigentlich
perfekt zur Mucke, die von vorn bis hinten (und an den Seiten sowieso;) an das
erinnert, was Anfang der Neunziger im schwedischen Death Metal Underground
abging und hat so ziemlich dasselbe (morbide) Feeling. Also genau das, was
vielen neuzeitlichen Orchestern, die sich auf Old School Schwedentod
spezialisiert haben, oftmals fehlt! Keine Ahnung ob Jimmy sich von der
Produktion her bewusst am klassischen Sound des legendären Sunlight Studios
orientieren wollte. Sollte dies aber der Fall gewesen sein, dann kann man ihm
nur gratulieren. Insbesondere der Klampfensound hat schon verdammt viel vom
typischen Sunlight-Crunch. Sehr geil! Neben den massiven und schwer mahlenden
Soundwänden wird natürlich auch mit kranken Melodien (von Anbeginn eine DER
Trademarks des schwedischen Death Metal!) nicht gegeizt und Jocke's Stimme
klingt so, als käme sie direkt aus der Gruft. Geht es flotter zur Sache, dann
wird des Öfteren im straighten D-Beat/Crustcore-Takt vorangaloppiert, was
ausgesprochen gut funktioniert. Nicht ganz so begeistert bin ich hingegen vom
Drumsound. Zwar ist das elektronische Helferlein wirklich gut programmiert,
jedoch mangelt es etwas an Druck und Durchschlagskraft. Außerdem brauchen Bands
wie ENTRAILS einfach einen echten Drummer und das nicht nur, weil es zum guten
Ton gehört, basta! Darüber hinaus gibt es in Sachen Songwriting noch ein paar
Reserven. Ich will damit zwar nicht zum Ausdruck bringen, dass die Songs auf
"Reborn" (passender Titel übrigens) nicht catchy sind und/oder einfach so, ohne
bleibenden Eindruck zu hinterlassen, an einem/r vorbeirauschen. Ein ganz großer
Hit vom Schlage hinlänglich bekannter Klassiker fehlt jedoch, wobei das
Potential dafür zweifelsohne vorhanden ist! Ein Song, welcher definitiv heraus
sticht, ist der Bonustrack "Depression". Der macht seinem Titel alle Ehre und
hier wird zur Abwechslung mal kein toter Elche exhumiert, sondern eher die
sterbende Braut oder das verlorene Paradies (if you know what I mean, ha!).
Sogar klagender Frauengesang kommt am Ende des Tracks zur Geltung. Sollte jetzt
jemand spontan an einen Song wie "The Painless" denken, dann liegt er/sie gar
nicht mal so falsch, wobei die Gastsängerin einen weitaus besseren Eindruck
hinterlässt, als wie das die Trällerursel bei PARADISE LOST damals tat! Auf alle
Fälle interessant und gut in Szene gesetzt! Fazit: Unterm Strich bleibt ein
wirklich gelungenes Demo-Tape, welches in erster Linie ein gefundenes Fressen
für die Elchtod-Fraktion darstellt. Zum Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis fällt mir nur
eines ein: Value for money! Für gerade mal 4 Euro (wenn man in Frankreich
ansässig ist, darf man gar noch einen Euro abziehen) bekommt man (Porto
inklusive!) sage und schreibe 48 Minuten Mucke geboten (remember: es ist ein
Demo!!!) und das ist angesichts der Schwindelerregenden Preise heutzutage
geradezu geschenkt! Bleibt zu hoffen, dass der Demotitel wortwörtlich zu
verstehen ist und dass von ENTRAILS bald noch mehr zu hören sein wird. Ich würde
es mir wünschen.

STORM Webzine (Fra)
Sortie en octobre 2009 chez Nihilistic, cette démo cassette d'Entrails est un
petit bijou de death metal.
Les gars sont de Suède, le groupe est
vraisemblablement ressorti de la poussière car ils avaient entamé quelque chose
en 1991, mais il n'y a pas eu de suite. Depuis le déterrement macabre de 2008, «
Reborn » est la première véritable production. Vous pourrez aussi vous procurez
une autre démo « Human Decay » sortie un mois plus tard. Ça a branlé pendant pas
mal d'années chez Entrails, mais ça ne chôme plus !!
Ce n'est pas compliqué,
ce groupe est suédois et c'est un death metal typiquement old school de cette
scène qui est présent sur cette démo.
Après une intro morbide comme on en
faisait il y a longtemps, les premiers riffs de « Evil Obsession » annonce la
couleur immédiatement. Le death metal de Entrails s'adresse aux fans de
Entombed, Dismember, et autres adeptes également de The Grotesquery, et
consorts.
Une basse plus que grasse et des guitares malsaines encouragées par
une batterie dévastatrice font la base du style de Entrails. Je parle de
Entombed en grosse référence, mais le vieux Entombed, celui de « Left Hand Path
» et de « Clandestine », d'ailleurs le logo de Entrails en témoigne amplement.
Il n'y a qu'à regarder la police de caractère du E et du S.
Rien d'innovant
dans ce style de musique mais en revanche une redoutable efficacité dans les
rythmiques et dans la batterie. Le son, la production est superbe, rien à envier
aux derniers Asphyx, ou Hail Of Bullets.
Les solos sont piquants, avec un son
super proche de celui de « Left hand path », c'est impressionnant.
Sur «
Voices » on retrouve un peu le côté mélodique qu'avait eu Dismember sur l'album
« Massive Killing Capacity », Entrails arrive à changer son côté old school pour
des riffs un peu plus mélodiques mais tout aussi destructeur. « Triumph Of The
Sinners » écrase tout sur son passage, ce morceau tue totalement, avec un riff à
la manière de Melechesh sur le premier morceau de l'album « Emissaries », mais
agencé dans le style death metal somptueux qui devient super planant en plein
milieu de la chanson. Les atmosphères sont bien trouvées, je n'ai rarement
entendu tel génie sur une première démo. « Midnight death » est du même acabit,
ce sont de véritables hymnes. C'est souvent que Gab de Nihilistic découvre de
vrais talents, je parle de Impureza qui sortira un jour son premier album, mais
aussi de Heaving Earth.
Avec 11 titres pour une démo, dont « Depression » en
guise de bonus track, ça me fait même de la peine que ce groupe n'ait sorti
qu'une démo cassette, alors que sa longueur est largement celle d'un
album.
En tous les cas Entrails a mis du temps à sortir quelque chose, mais
ça valait largement la peine d'attendre. J'invite les fans de death old school à
se rapprocher de se groupe, parce que c'est démoniaquement sublissime. Accroche
immédiate !!!!! Allez écouter, car les essayer c'est les adopter, j'insiste
particulièrement, car ce groupe est une graine de star....

Is ja geil ,das sind
ja mal nen paar wirklich satte und
ungemein ansprechende Klänge ,welche da in Richtung meiner Lauschlappen dringen
! Aber irgendwie verwundert es einen dann auch nicht ,da diese 11 Stücke bereits
aus den Gründertagen ( 1990 ) der Band
stammen .Und die liegen ja nun bereits nen paar Jahrzehnte hinter denen .Das
heutzutage einzig übrig gebliebene Gründungsmitglied ,Jimmy, hat nun diese
Stücke noch einmal komplett neu eingespielt und sich nen Gastsänger dazu gehört
.Obwohl die Aufnahmen nun in einem neuen Klanggewand verpackt wurden ,versprühen
die aber immer noch ein ungemeines old school feeling und lassen einen vollenst
in Erinnerungen schwelgen .Eröffnet wird der muntere schwedische Death Metal
Reigen mit nem duster schaurigen horror mäßigem , etwas zu lang geratenem Intro
(geht gut 3 min . ) Dann aber greift man enorm tief in die old school Schublade
und lässt es durchweg ziemlich krachen .Obwohl nicht durchweg die volle Fahrt
gemacht wird - man zeigt sich auch mal
etwas schleppender - versprüht jeder der
einzelnen Stücke eine enorme Portion an Energie und Aggression .Da ruhig sitzen
zu bleiben ,fällt verdammt schwer !Vor allem die super schweren Soundwände –
hier insbesondere die Riffs - ,haue voll rein .Ab und an bleibt aber auch noch
nen bissel Platz , um sich mal kurzfristig etwas sanfter mit den Gitarren zu
zeigen .Der ganze Sound ist durchweg von ner gewissen dunklen Atmosphäre geprägt
,welche teilweise sogar schon fast morbiden Charakter vorweist . Das ganze eher
düstere Geschehen findet hierbei gerade durch den abgrund tiefen Gesang noch ne
zusätzliche Unterstützung . Beim letzten Stück tauchen dann sogar mal kurz nen
paar weibliche Stimmlagen auf .Geil ,wie das alles so zusammen passt .Selbst der
elektronische Drummer klingt nicht wirklich danach .Zwar wäre hierbei sicherlich
ein wenig mehr Bums ganz gut gewesen ,aber da ist vielleicht der Technik doch so
ne gewisse Grenze gesetzt .Insgesamt gesehen sollten Fans von „Dismember“, „Grave“ und „Entombed“ hier fast zwangsweise zugreifen
müssen .Obwohl das Teil nun über 48 min .läuft ,vergeht hier die Zeit wie
im Fluge ,und es komm zu keinem Zeitpunkt auch nur einmal der Ansatz von Monotonie oder Langeweile auf .Ein mehr als
gelungenes Demo Tape ,welches jeden einzelnen Cent der hierfür erforderlichen 4
Euro wert ist .Wäre sicherlich echt ne sau geile Sache ,wenn man von „Entrails“
vielleicht in Zukunft doch mal was neues und aktuelles zu hören kriegen würde
.Ha ,gerade noch aktuelle News entdeckt .Die Band bringt bei „FDA Rekotz“ im nächsten Jahr nen neuen
Schwedentot Hammer an den Start !!!( LEO

Le lion est mort ce soir
Si même
les vieux de la vieille viennent inonder le marché, je ne
sais plus où on va aller. Peut-être est-il temps de
construire des écluses, de demander à nos amis castors
de bâtir un solide barrage pour régulariser tout ça.
Papiers, svp. Ce projet de Jimmy Lundqvist a démarré
en 1991 (!!) mais comme il n’était pas satisfait des enregistrements
à l’époque, il a préféré s’abstenir.
Et ce n’est que17 ans plus tard, - l’âge moyen dans la scène
suédoise du Death Metal, keuf keuf - que le projet est ressuscité.
Le vent soufflait dans les voiles, la météo était
clémente. Il aurait pu revenir il y a 10 ans, mais non, il
fallait que ce soit maintenant alors qu’on en peut déjà
plus. Surtout moi. Il n’est plus seul à bord de son rafiot
puisque un certain Jocke Svensson mène la barque sur le Styx
de sa voix d’outre-tombe. Bien sûr on y parle de morgue, d’obsession
démoniaque, de mort qui survient à minuit pile et
du facteur qui sonne toujours trois fois. Il y a aussi un texte
sur le chien mort qui sourit. Dommage qu’il n’y ait pas les paroles.
Cette demo est toutefois solide, les titres sont bien balancés,
variés, il est certain que Jimmy sait s’y prendre pour composer
de bons titres qui ne m’endorment pas. La sagesse peut-être
? Un pot-bien-pourri pour l’occasion à garder sous le coude.
Je pense vaguement à EDGE OF SANITY, au Killing massive capacity
de DISMEMBER, et à d’autres typiquement ENTOMBiennes. La
nostalgie dégoulinante se faisant, une autre demo Human Decay
vient déjà de sortir alors que l’année n’est
pas encore terminée. 7/10
IMPERIUMI
Webzine (Fin)
Harvemmin tulee nykyään enää kasettidemoja vastaan, etenkään lafkojen
julkaisemana, mutta tässä suhteessa ruotsalainen Entrails onkin poikkeus.
Poikkeus Reborn on myös siinä suhteessa, että kestoa demolla on
vaatimattomasti vajaat 50 minuuttia ja biisejäkin tuotokselle on mahdutettu yhtä
vaille tusina. Arvostelukappale on tosin cd-r-muotoinen, joskin perinteisesti
mustavalkoisilla xerox-kansilla varustettu ja vielä numeroitu. Tässä sitä on
kulttia kerrakseen.
Musiikillisesti Reborn on varsin hyvää peruskauraa ja
pituutensa puolesta siis jo ihan levykelpoista sellaista. Yhtyeen ruoputtama
vanhakantainen death metal tuo mieleen niin Dismemberin,
Entombedin kuin muutkin vanhan koulukunnan ruotsalaisaktit - ja vain
hyvässä mielessä. Biisit eivät omaperäisyydellä pullistele, mutta mitäpä sillä
väliä, kun kokonaisuus toimii hyvin näinkin. Ehkä hieman lyhyempi kokonaisuus
olisi maistunut paremmin näinkin perinteistä kaavaa noudattavan kohdalla, mutta
tämähän ei varsinaisesti teosta huononna.
Soundit ovat rumpuja lukuun
laskematta hyvää tasoa. Kitarasoundi on rosoinen, muhkea ja niin sanotusti
munaisa. Potkua löytyy helposti vaikka levybändeille esimerkin vuoksi, mutta
valitettavasti patteristosta ilmeisesti vastaa kone. Tosin jälki on keskivertoa
parempaa, joten puistatukset sentään vältetään. Laulun möräkkä örinä hanskaa
sekin hommansa hyvin, joten ainakin teoriassa kaikki on hyvin.
Eipä tässä
paljoa erikoisempaa hiottavaa ole kuin korkeintaan yksittäisellä
biisirintamalla; tarttuvuutta ja tiukempia biisejä kun voisi olla lisääkin.
Muutoin homma toimii ihan hyvin ja tällaista jälkeä voisi vastaanottaa ihan
levymuodossakin.

Dès que t'as cette démo
dans les paluches velues, tu sais à quoi t'attendre. Avec
ce logo qui fait très hommage à Entombed/Nihilist,
ça ne peut que donner dans le bon vieux death old-school
à la suédoise. Alors ça démarre sur
une intro très cinématographique : sonnage de cloche,
grinçage de porte, descendage dans la crypte, et exhumage
de cadavre avec la petite mélodie qui fout les chocottes.
Zou, plongeon direct dans l'atmosphère obscure adéquate.
"Evil Obsession" est le 1er titre, et un style effectivement
très marqué par les débuts d'Entombed, Dismember,
Grave mais aussi Edge Of Sanity pour l’aspect mélodique.
S'agit d'une boite-à-rythmes mais elle ne ruine pas les compos
par ses approximations scabreuses et ça c'est relativement
rare pour être souligné... à part peut-être
à la longue l'effet "plastique" finira par te prendre
la tête comme à moi. Les riffs sont simples et bien
accrocheurs, avec du coté vocal une voix classique là
aussi, très grave et profonde qui s'adapte parfaitement bien
à la musique. Rien à redire, le duo maîtrise
son sujet au poil... ouep car s'agit bien d'une doublette zombifiante
cet Entrails, pour l'anecdote la formation du groupe remonte à
90, avec une séparation en 98 sans qu'aucune prod ne soit
jamais sortie. Et puis finalement une résurrection survenue
cette année, mais du line-up originel ne reste que Jimmy
Bloodspill, le gars qui gère tous les instruments. L'autre
zombie qui s'égosille c'est Jocke Svensson, bassiste chez
Birdflesh habituellement. On va faire simple, tous les titres sont
du même tonneau, toujours cette guitare simple et rentre-dedans
accordée six pieds sous terre, les petites mélodies
aériennes un rien tristounettes dignes de Dan Swano, et puis
rythmiquement le minimum à en attendre pour pas s'emmerder
et tomber sur pouvoir croiser du plan à headbanging bien
sympa. Les 4 premiers titres sont vraiment terribles, avec surtout
un "Voices" imparable pour ses voix justement, et un "Morgue"
brutal et groovy comme j'aime. Pas mal de riffs rappellent quand
même des albums mythiques du début des 90s, du coup
aucune surprise à attendre de cette démo à
part un bon trip nostalgique ficelé par des gars qui connaissent
à fond leur rayon. La suite par contre est moins bandante
j'ai trouvé, c'est que je m'serais presque fait chier à
partir de "Triumph Of The Sinners". En fait, pour recroiser
de la qualité faut attendre la dernière piste doom/death
baptisée on ne peut plus judicieusement "Depression"
(faut juste oublier les choeurs qui font très Petits Chanteurs
à la Croix de Bois à la fin du morceau). Au total
sur 10 titres (48 minutes), 5 valent leur pesant de cacahuètes,
et moi je dis que c'est déjà pas mal pour un groupe
de death old-school à b-à-r. Avouez que c'était
pas gagné d'avance. Leur manque plus qu'un batteur et logiquement
ça devrait tuer ! 3/5

HORDE NOIRE Webzine (Fra)
Ah la Suède ! Quel beau pays, les paysages, l'alcool et surtout la multitude de
groupes de death que l'on peut y trouver! ENTRAILS n'en n'est un de plus
je serais tenter de dire, un de plus peut-être, mais attention : passer à côté
de cette formation serait une grosse erreur. Composer seulement de deux membres,
c'est en cette année 2009 que le combo nous livre sa démo tape. Une démo
tellement aboutie qu'après tout on en vient quand même à se demander s'il est
vraiment judicieux de la classer en tant que telle. En effet, rare sont les
groupes qui peuvent se targuer de proposer 11 titres d'une aussi bonne qualité
autant au niveau du travail de composition qui a clairement été fourni, ou de la
production. Puisant son inspiration dans des groupes comme DISMEMBER ou
autres early ENTOMBED ce Reborn aurait sans hésitation sa place
dans votre discothèque.
Concrètement, ENTRAILS propose des morceaux en
moyenne de 3 min 50 s où la sensation première est de te faire écraser la boîte
crânienne par ces riffs super lourds où s'enchaînent grosses rythmiques et
mélodies. Les fans de blastbeats seront sans aucun doute déçu de ne pas en
prendre plein les conduits auditifs car effectivement, on ne peut pas dire que
le cheval de bataille du duo maléfique soit la bourrinerie pure et dure, qui
souvent peut faire défaut chez certains groupes que je ne citerais pas sous
peine de passer pour une mauvaise langue. Sachez métalleux métalleuses
qu'ENTRAILS utilise une boîte à rythme ce qui pourrait en froisser plus
d'un cependant, laissez moi vous dire que j'ai rarement eu l'occasion d'en
entendre une aussi bien programmer. À part peut-être le son parfois trop plastoc
de cette dernière, l'illusion d'écouter un vrai batteur serait totale. Enfin
bref, Reborn est une très bonne prod, ce qui est dommage c'est que
l'objet est dispo sous format K7 : quand aurons-nous la chance de trouver
l'objet en CD ? Telle est la question. Il faut tout de même avouer que même si
la K7 reste underground, elle n'en demeure beaucoup moins ergonomique que le CD
! Le dernier point fort à noter et là cela n'a plus rien à voir avec la musique
du groupe c'est que pour seulement 3 ou 4 euros tu pourras te procurer ce petit
bijoux, alors elle est pas belle la vie? Il ne te reste plus qu'a filer chez ta
grand mère jeune padawan pour lui soutirer du pognon afin de l'envoyer à juste
titre à NIHILISTIC HOLOCAUST, un label expert en en signature de groupes

Upcoming Swedish metal band Entrails has recently issued their new killer demo
cassette entitled Reborn. Alone if we start with their logo, one
notices that it is done by simple tools yet in a very old-school way reminding
me of Entombed and similar acts. Not does only their logo looks like Entombed’s
but they actually also sound like their co-fellow Swedish brothers. However,
Entrails were formed in 1991, so one can not accuse them of being a rip-off or
anything like it. They are still playing same old and well-proved pure quality
Swedish-style death metal.
Reborn consists of eleven tracks
(where “Depression” is the bonus song) that are hard-hitting and without
compromise. It feels like receiving a sonic punch in the face while additional
melodic riffing adds some atmosphere and variation in their otherwise brutal
sound. Most of the songs presented on this demo are both brutally evil and mean,
while some others are harmonic and catchy. However, not many catchy moments are
present here. All of the instruments are played with necessary conviction while
one feels like have heard it before. Most of the tunes are memorable as the
sound is atmospheric, catchy and organic. Speaking of organic sound, the same
can be esp. said for the drums, while the vocals are deep and mainly
growling.
Entrails is a force to be reckon with, and despite of the fact
that they sometimes sound too much like Nihilist, Entombed, At the Gates and
Dismember, they still have the necessary originality and own trademark giving
them the recognition they absolutely deserve.
Reborn is a
material that will please most old-school death metal fans, but also those who
want their metal served old-school and honest way.

Entrails trace back their origins to the end of 1990 when the band was started,
they never released a demo back then. It seems that they suffered the same fate
as many other Death Metal did in the early nineties, another Death Metal band in
an already over-populated scene where the "great" bands had already begun their
road to success (or moderate success depending on your general outlook on life).
Bad studio experiences, fading interest lead to what once was a full band
continued for some years as a one-man band but later folded altogether. But now
Entrails is back, Bloodsplill got nostalgic one day and decided to record some
of his old tracks and release it, with the help of growler Jocke Svensson (of
Devilry, Birdflesh and Litania). The music is old school Swedish Death Metal.
What else? Dark and raw, reminiscent of Nihilist, early Entombed and early
Dismember. There are some really heavy riffs here and there and some really
obscure solos. This is actually quite good, the only draw-back are the
programmed drums, they take away from the organic felling and sound of the
recordings. But this is not bad at all, get this if you are into old school
Swedish Death Metal. And considering this demo contains eleven tracks and is
almost 50 minutes long, you will definitely get your moneys worth.

„Oho, dziadki będą rozrabiać” –
pomyślałem mając świadomość tego, że początki tej szwedzkiej załogi
datują się na rok... 1991! Nic to, że przez ostatnie 17 lat zespół
raczej nie pozostawał aktywny, bo przecież nie będziemy nikogo rozliczać
z takich „drobiazgów”. Ważne, że koniec końców Entrails
udało się zasygnalizować swoją obecność jak również przysporzyć
nieco radości takim starym piernikom jak na przykład ja – a to wszystko
za sprawą wydanego w roku 2008 demo „Reborn”. Jeśliście obdarzeni
choćby przeciętną inteligencją pewnie zwróciliście uwagę
na to, że pozwoliłem sobie podkreślić już we wstępie wyraz określający
pochodzenie autorów „Reborn” jak również datę „narodzin”
Entrails, gdyż tak naprawdę te dwie informacje doskonale poradziłyby
sobie z zastąpieniem niniejszej recenzji. Nie ma chyba (mam przynajmniej
taką nadzieję) na świecie maniaka Death Metalu, który nie
byłby w stanie wygłosić obszernego monologu tylko i wyłącznie w
oparciu o te dane. Któż bowiem mieniąc się fanem „Swedeath’u”
nie zna Entombed, Dismember, Edge Of Sanity czy też Grave? Te cztery
„szyldy” to naturalnie jedynie wierzchołek góry lodowej,
gdyż jak sami wiecie kraina trzech koron obfituje (bo pamiętajmy,
iż zdolnych kontynuatorów tego dzieła zniszczenia jest całkiem
sporo) w całe zastępy utalentowanych Śmierć Metalowych oprawców
do twórczości których można porównywać dokonania
Entrails, a także wśród których swoje miejsce bez
trudu znajdzie również Entrails. Dlaczego? Cóż, jest
to co prawda pytanie z gatunku retorycznych, jednak pozwolę sobie
nań odpowiedzieć – ponieważ ich muzyka stanowi ku temu wystarczającą
przepustkę. Sugestywne intro na początek, a następnie... poszły
konie po betonie! Ja pierdolę! Możecie mi wierzyć lub nie, ale „Reborn”
nie pozwala usiedzieć spokojnie w miejscu i choć znajdą się pewnie
osobnicy przeciągle ziewający przy propozycji Szwedów, których
przy okazji sklasyfikują w kategoriach nie znających umiaru imitatorów
ja prawdę mówiąc za nic mam całą tę czczą gadaninę. Dlaczego?
Och, to proste! ponieważ muzyka Entrails jawi się niczym zbiór
najlepszych patentów umiejętnie wyłuskanych z płyt stanowiących
fundamentalne dzieła gatunku z powodzeniem uprawianego również
przez autorów tego materiału. O wartości „Reborn” jednoznacznie
przesądzają fantastyczne gitarowe riff’y oraz solówki, charakterystyczna
rytmika oraz motoryka utworów (posłuchajcie chociażby początku
„Evil Obsession” a wszystko stanie się zupełnie jasne), grobowy
growling, specyficzna melodyka i TO, doskonale znane nam brzmienie.
Tutaj wszystko prezentuje się jakby zostało z niezwykłą dbałością
o szczegóły „przygotowane i wypieczone” według najlepszego
z dostępnych przepisów na rasowy „Swedeath’owy” krążek. Wobec
tego, jak mniemam, nie jest żadną niespodzianką fakt, iż zawartość
„Reborn” wali bezlitośnie w łeb torując sobie drogę do świadomości
słuchacza tym dźwiękowym taranem będącym (jak się rychło okazuje)
perfekcyjnym i niezwykle skutecznym narzędziem w rękach muzyków
Entrails dzięki któremu dokonują oni aktu totalnej dewastacji.
Kompozycje tworzące „Reborn” są bez wątpienia udane, a dodatkowo
fakt uparcie pojawiających się skojarzeń i odniesień do twórczości
tych „wielkich” sprawia, że materiału słucha się wybornie – nawet
pomimo dość długiego czasu trwania tego wydawnictwa. Wiem, wiem
– żadna to rewolucja. Ale, ostatecznie, czy absolutnie każdy musi
być odkrywcą i pionierem przecierającym nowe szlaki? Ja tam niezmiernie
cenię sobie tę nader solidną szwedzką łupaninę w wykonaniu tego
zespołu, i pewnie jeszcze nie raz i nie dwa sięgnę po ich propozycję,
jeśli na przykład akurat okaże się, iż do półki z „klasykami”
rodem ze Szwecji z różnych powodów będzie odrobinę
za daleko...

I’m not a complete old school fanatic, it actually takes quite a lot to
impress me. There are some bands that I absolutely love, but far from
every act rearing its ugly face, claiming to be old school. But Entrails’
roots go back to 1990, when the main man Jimmy started to write songs.
Nothing was ever released, but for some reason or another he felt his
old songs deserved to be heard, so almost twenty years later we now
have the Reborn demo.
There’s no question this is old school death metal, and there’s no
question this is Swedish. But while you can draw resemblances to acts
like Dismember, Grave and Entombed
(which people seem to do whenever dealing with Swedish-sounding old
school death metal) it’s not entirely fair. There are a few big hints
towards old school thrash, like for instance in Stormy death. And at times I feel some Unleashed vibes as well, in that particular chugging tempo. But the track that really stands out is Depression, just for the wicked riffing and killer doom atmosphere. It’s like if Worship or Mournful Congregation decided to go old school death metal. The result is a fantastic tune.
The music sounds very based around the slick guitar lines, and there
are tons of them. No matter the tempo the guitars have cool riffs to
deliver, and plenty of headbanger friendly moments occur throughout
this quite hefty demo (considering it’s 48 minutes long). This is
really what you’d expect from a top-notch band of the style. Along with
the quite monstrous growls it certainly delivers the goods.
What is unfortunate is that it doesn’t really speak to me. I’ve never been seriously into either Dismember nor Grave, so I’m having a bit of a hard time really getting into Entrails
as well. And one thing that bothers me is definitely the sound. It’s
all recorded in Jimmy’s own homestudio, so maybe I shouldn’t expect too
much, but the guitar sound is really stale. And the drum machine also
makes it sound a little flat. I’ve certainly heard way worse in drum
programming, this is actually quite well done, but it still doesn’t let
the music come alive and overwhelm you. However, trust me; if you’re a
rabid fan of Swedish old school death metal you’ll go apeshit over this. 6,5/10

Wieder Zeit für Nostalgiker: Gab von Nihilistic Holocaust hat wieder
eine Kassette draußen. Die Truppe schimpft sich ENTRAILS, kommt
aus Schweden und lässt alleine auf Grund des
Entombed-Ripp-Off-Logos alte schwedische Schule erhoffen. Doch
ein Schelm, wer der Gruppe nun was Böses unterstellt! Denn
ENTRAILS gab es wohl 1991 zum ersten Mal. Aus dieser Zeit
sollen auch die Songs von “Reborn” stammen. Doch nachdem man damals mit
der Aufnahme-Qualität der Lieder nicht zufrieden war, hat man seinerzeit erstmal
nichts veröffentlicht und sich aufgelöst.
Wiedervereinigung war dann 2008
mit der Intention, die guten alten Songs doch endlich mal für die Öffentlichkeit
aufzunehmen. Und das Ergebnis kann sich hören lassen, denn es gibt genau das,
was man erwartet, sich beinahe wünscht: Alten schwedischen Death Metal mit
starkem Einschlag von Entombed und Dismember.
Rock’n Roll sage ich da nur, denn “Voices” oder “Entrails”
sind wirklich bestes oldschool Feeling und funktionieren sogar mit Drumcomputer.
Die Knüppelkiste ist ordentlich programmiert und die Sounds nerven auch gar
nicht.
“Stormy Death” kommt fast an die außerordentliche Qualität
der genannten Songs dran und auch die restlichen Lieder befinden sich auf einem
hohen Spaßfaktor. Fette Midtempo-Parts, atmosphärische Soli, groovende Uptempo,
so muss Stockholm-Tod sein! Im Bonus-Song “Despression” traut sich das
Duo in ziemlich doomige Gefilde und erinnern etwas an die Titel-Melodie von
“Twilight Zone”. Ein richtig geiler Songs, den ich aber etwas außerhalb des
Gesamtbildes verstehe. Alleine durch seine “epische” Spielzeit von sieben
einhalb Minuten…
Auf die komplette Spieldauer von knapp fuffzisch Minuten
hätten sicherlich ein paar mehr herausragende Stücke dem Album gut getan. Doch
gerade, wenn man meint: Ja, der Song ist zwar nett, aber dem Vorgängerstück zu
ähnlich, hauen ENTRAILS ein richtig geiles Lead raus oder
überraschen sogar mit Violinen “Midnight Dead” oder Frauengesang in
“Depression” – und zwar richtig geilen, atmosphärischen
Gesang!
Liebe Nostalgiker, es ist doch was wunderbares, wenn man so ein
neues Stück alter Musik genießen kann. Da können uns die MP3-Jünglinge gerne
auslachen, wir wissen schon, warum wir noch unseren Kassettenspieler
haben.
Liebe CD-Freunde, kein Grund zum Neid, soweit ich das richtig
mitbekommen habe arbeitet FDA Rekotz an einer schicken, gepressten
CD-Version von “Reborn“. Und die kann man dann auch abspielen, ohne
dass sie mit jedem Mal schlechter klingt. So hat alles irgendwie seine Vor- und
Nachteile… und vor allen Dingen Liebhaber-Aspekte! Wie auch “Reborn”
von ENTRAILS! Wo mancher vielleicht sagen wird: Kalter Kaffee,
sage ich: Sehr nette alte Schule! Damit kann man sehr viel Spaß haben. 4, na
gut, weil ich heute gut drauf bin: 4.5 Punkte!

Traditional Swedish death
metal has always had a special place in my heart and Entrails are the living
embodiment of all the Stockholm style represents; down-tuned guitars, dark
atmospheres, meaty riffs, and eerie melodies. This 10 song demo (plus intro)
kicks out some old school songwriting that is an homage to the original kings
Entombed, Dismember, and Grave. But I think the one recording this most reminds
me of is Necrophobic's Unholy Prophecies demo. Evil Obsession the graveyard
massacre with thick, demonic riffs that perfectly display down-tuned guitars in
that classic Swedish style. Like a bonesaw they grind through rancid flesh.
The Morgue is up next with its blasting drums and sawing riffs which eventually
give way to a graveyard stomp and somber leads. Your Dead Dog Smile has a
meatier approach that brings to mind Grave's thicker riffing style and groovier
overall approach. Shifting gears slightly is the more melodic approach of
Voices which is reminiscent of Dismember circa Pieces. The track flows around a
bouncy main riff and a subtle Dismember-ish melody that is catchy and deadly at
the same time. Not to mention the sorrowful guitar lead screams Dismember.
Stormy death opens with a melodic lead before faster Entombed-esque riffs smash
into the chunkier riffing method of early Necrophobic. The final song,
Depression is a long, slow death doom odyssey. The track crawls along like a
corpse clawing its way out of the damp earth. Jocke's vocals are deep and
guttural. Aside from the programmed drums this demo is nearly perfect. The
dark, morbid atmospheres of the Stockholm style are flawlessly executed by
Entrails on Reborn. If you worship old school, traditional Swedish death then
you will devour this debut recording from Entrails. "Entrails are
Reborn!"

Most írtam pont a Lostgod promojáról, abban pont erre a bandára hivatkoztam,
hogy ők jól nyomják a death metalt azért mert… Akkor most itt kifejtem, hogyan
kellett volna csinálni a Lostgodéknak, mert az Entrails bizony eredeti egy
zenekar! 11 szám kapott helyet eme kazettán, ebből egy intro, egy pedig egy
bonus track. Nem nagyon értettem soha ezeket a bonus cuccokat, de valahogy ez
tényleg ilyen, majd leírom miért. Nos, az intro igazi szentségtelen, bajlós
hangokból összerakott suttogásos, horror felvétel, és érdekes, mert az utána
következő Evil Obsession- höz nem nagyon illik. Már ettől a számtól
meghallatszik az Entrails különlegessége, ez egy kajak d-beat thrash szám, igazi
mocskos gitárhangzással, és belevaló riffekkel. Az ének, ami halálossá
deformálja az egészet, ez is mocskosan hangzik, csakúgy, és visszhangzós is.
Egyszerű, régifajta death metal ez, sok lassulással, de leginkább egyedi
témákkal. Ez a punkos ritmika leginkább az első számra jellemző, a többi
leginkább thrash- death féleség, kevés blastbeattel, a hangulatra koncentrálva.
Egyébként a számsorrendre nagyon odafigyeltek, az intro után az első, lendületes
kezdő szám jön, majd a The Morgue, ami kibaszott gyorsan, Vomitory-t idéző
brutalitással zakatol, bár alapjába véve ez egy lassú dal. Aztán, a borítón a B
oldal első száma is fasza bevezető nóta, (írom ezt úgy, hogy CDr-re kiírva
kaptam meg, biztos, mert olcsóbban kijön így a postaköltség) és az uccsó,
Depression, ami már emlegetett bonus. Azt képzeljétek el, női, dallamos ének van
benne! Szűk nyolc perces, lassan málházó, igazi meghalós doom szerzemény, sötét,
súlyos riffekkel, és közben egy beteg, monoton, istentelen szintitémával.
Olyasmi effekttel, mint a Black Dominator-nak a Fekete Terror válogatásán
szereplő számban. Nagyon sötét atmoszférát kölcsönöz neki, a női ének, meg nem
hat nyálasan, mert nem szoprán, inkább alt hangja van a csajnak, és így
emelkedett, de ugyanakkor depresszív, melankolikus hatást kelt,- tehát nagyon
összhangban van a címmel, kurva király! Nagyon ráálltam most a hasonló,
hangulatorientált zenékre, szerintem az időjárás miatt, (2009. november 8. van)
aztán ez meg tökéletesen illik a ködös, borult időhöz. Mondom, a Depression egy
kivételes Entrails szám, a többi nem ilyen, de ugyanolyan fasza. Egyébként már
sok distroban láttam e kazettát, meg is akartam szerezni, mert kurva jól nézett
ki a borítója, aztán meg Gab elküldte nekem promoként… ekkora mákot! A Nerlich,
ugyanilyen kivitelezésű kazettájával együtt, arról lentebb olvashattok!

Du gros death suédois boîte à rythmé qui le fait bien. Sortez les bûcherons et
surtout les tronçonneuses, y’a du massacre dans l’air. La typo et le son sont
typiques (ENTOMBED avant de faire du MOTORHEAD, de Left Hand Path à Wolverine
Blues donc ; le reste est de toute façon à chier par terre) et les morcifs
rappellent furieusement un certain DISMEMBER. Je suis pas fan jusqu’au bout des
ongles noirs mais faut avouer que niveau efficacité, les gaziers se posent là.
Triumph Of The Sinners est une superbe pièce que l’on devrait apprendre dans les
écoles de guitare.

What the hell? These guys sound as they came straight from Swedish Death Metal
Scene circa 1990! So don’t expect here nothing exceptionally original or
revealing but just Swedish Death Metal in vain of ENTOMBED, DESULTORY, GRAVE,
DISMEMBER, etc. The music from this release sounds really good and professional
as this band got years of experience. And by the way that is what they say –
that ENTRAILS were formed in 1991 but never recorded anything until 2009. Sounds
a little bullshit to me because now they are so fruitful that only in 2009 they
released two demos!
Anyway – I like this music even if this is nothing new it
possessed good atmosphere, the musical abilities of the members of ENTRAILS are
satisfying (I should say Jim’s because this guy composed all the music, played
guitars, bass and programmed drums so he did all except vocals), they use here
old but good ideas, the sound is really “taken-from-the-90s” and I wouldn’t be
shocked if that was a forgotten album recorded 20 years ago in Sweden. The only
difference for ENTRAILS is that 20 years ago with such an album they could
conquer the world’s Metal scene and now they can only dream about that, hehehe!
What else….? I wouldn’t complain if this demo was a bit
shorter, maybe without one of those 10 tracks, because for such well worn and
trite style it is too long for me. I like the last track called “Depression”
which is something different I have already heard from Swedish-style Death
Metal. It sounds as ENTOMBED or DESULTORY in slow motion – this track is fucking
slow and ponderous; something as fusion of Swedish Death Metal with Doom Metal.
It got great atmosphere and short insertion of female voice by the end of it.
Well. Generally this is pretty good release, full of catchy
melodic riffs, great atmosphere, good arrangements/ ideas and underground feel
so if there are any “Swedish Death Metal” freaks for which all those countless
releases from 20 years back are not enough you should reach for this one
too! 69/100

nosa skubany! Gab (bo o nim mowa) z Nihilistic Holocaust, zawsze podeśle mi
jakąś wykopaną przez siebie Podziemną “perełkę”. Ileż to już razy jego
wydawnictwa skopały mi dupę… Uh! Tym razem jakże skutecznie uczynił to ENTRAILS.
Już samo, mroczne intro zapowiadało nie lada gratkę, a otwierający „Evil
Obsession” pozbawił mnie złudzeń co do zawartości owego tasiemca. Pierwsze co
rzuca się na uszy, to wspaniałe brzmienie materiału, przywołujące słuszne
skojarzenia z tym co u zarania wyprawiał T. Skocksberg w Sunlight Studio -
wiecie już o co chodzi? Dokładnie! ENTRAILS tłucze właśnie taki galopujący Death
Metal na potęgę GRAVE, ENTOMBED, czy innego DISMEMBER! Po prostu moc! Ponure,
acz żywe struktury kawałków, rewelacyjne solówki, konkretne riffy i od samego
początku do samego końca - machanie baniakiem, bo inaczej po prostu się nie da.
Z tak ulepionego monumentu wyróżnia się mocno przebojowy „Midnight Death”,
będący jakby oddechem, przed dalszą rzeźnią (absolutnie mistrzowski środek ma
ten numer!!!). „Reborn” to arcydzieło w naszym ukochanym Podziemiu i życzę tej
kapeli jak najlepiej- są tego warci! (9/10).

Sono sempre curioso di ascoltare una nuova uscita della Nihilistic Holocaus: di
solito G non sbaglia un colpo, riesce puntualmente ad accaparrarsi ottimi
gruppi sconosciuti. Questa volta, tuttavia, non me la sento di dire che ha fatto
centro.
Gli Entrails sono un gruppo svedese che, come tale, ripropone in
maniera fedele le sonorità che hanno reso celebri Entombed, Dismember, Grave.
C'è un motivo ben preciso se il gruppo suona così dannatamente in maniera
aderente ai canoni: Jimmy "Bloodspill", chitarrista e mente degli Entrails,
aveva iniziato a comporre le proprie canzoni già a partire dal 1991, proprio
quando i capostipiti di quel fantastico e glorioso movimento stavano muovendo i
primi passi. Mai completamente soddisfatto delle sue creature, decise di non
registrarle, cosicché il nome Entrails è rimasto celato per moltissimi anni.
Poi, per una ragione o per l'altra, nel 2008 Jimmy si mette in testa di
riesumare il suo progetto e pubblicare un demo, e Gab della Nihilistic Holocaust
era la persona giusta che poteva aiutarlo in questo. Jimmy, allora, si è avvalso
dell'aiuto del cantante Jocke Svensson, e insieme hanno registrato "Reborn".
Il demo, della durata di un album vero e proprio, comprende dieci canzoni
più una lunga intro che annuncia la rinascita degli Entrails. Come detto, i
tratti distintivi del death svedese ci sono tutti. Ci sono brani lenti e
tendenzialmente oscuri, brani più veloci ed arrembanti e altri ancora che si
rifanno, almeno in parte, alla corrente melodica.
Onestamente non siamo di
fronte a un lavoro di qualità superlativa. Passi pure che si tratta di una
proposta derivativa (ammesso che sia giusto definirla così, visto che stiamo
parlando di un gruppo storico), il problema va rintracciato altrove.
Le
canzoni hanno il brutto vizio di perdere di immediatezza, ci sono dei passaggi
abbastanza monotoni e prevedibili che ne smorzano il tiro. E' vero che molte
volte un riff semplice è anche efficace, ma c'è modo e modo di comporre seguendo
questa regola. Gli Entrails, semplicemente, non sono contraddistinti da
quell'aggressività e quella carica che pervadeva i loro conterranei agli inizi
degli anni '90. Brani come "Triumph Of The Sinners" sembrano non finire più,
tanto sono ripetitivi e mosci. Inoltre, i nostri ricorrono ad una drum machine,
cosa che quasi nessuno al tempo di sarebbe sognato di fare. Il fascino di queste
sonorità sta anche nel suono marcio, che non è assolutamente riproducibile con
una batteria programmata e con dei suoni così sintetici. Se proprio vogliamo
fare i pignoli, neanche gli altri strumenti fanno male, le chitarre sono troppo
grosse, non grattano come ai bei tempi. Non penso che "Left Hand Path" avrebbe
conquistato tanti cuori se fosse stato prodotto come "Reborn"!
In secondo
luogo, alcuni pezzi risultano troppo melodici, influenzati da quella corrente
che è esplosa verso la fine dello scorso millennio (In Flames e compagnia) e che
ha spaccato la critica. Si tratta, dunque, di una melodia piuttosto facile,
oserei dire commerciale, che stona se consideriamo l'ottica con cui "Reborn" è
(o dovrebbe essere) concepito: siamo di fronte ad un'uscita underground,
prodotta addirittura in cassetta con tanto di grafica old-school e layout fatto
con la tecnica del cut'n'paste... non possono esserci canzoni come "Your Dead
Dog Smile" e "Midnight Death" in un'uscita così, non si può.
"Reborn" è un
demo senza infamia e senza lode. Potrebbe incuriosire i più fanatici della scena
svedese. Nel complesso, però, mi ha deluso: date le premesse, mi sarei aspettato
un gruppo più interessante e capace. Un gruppo con più voglia di osare, che non
vedeva l'ora di sfogare la rabbia accumulata in quasi vent'anni di oscura
attività nelle note di questo primo lavoro. Invece si è presentato scagliando un
colpo a vuoto. Peccato. 5.5

ENTRAILS is back from the grave and better than
ever. Originally brought to life in Sweden during 1991, the band went on
indefinite hiatus until recently in 2008. With their fittingly titled demo,
"Reborn", ENTRAILS delivers a slab of Death Metal that is slow, groovy, and
atmospheric. When first listening you'll definitely be able to hear the
BLOODBATH and DISMEMBER influence in the strongly distorted guitars, echoing
growls, and mid paced, if not slow, tempo. Opening with a great atmospheric
introduction, the album drags the listener in with "Evil Obsession" which is one
of the faster songs on the album, but still has that dragging, gritty feel to
it. The vocals are demonic and venomous and complement the guitars very
well. The drums hammer along in the background, but they are overshrouded by the
guitars and bass. Fuzziness is the key apparently to ENTRAILS' music.
The album continues in the gritty death metal vein with "The
Morgue." Here there is some strong BLOODBATH influence (at least from the first
album) where the chorus line almost sounds like an exact riff and vocal copy
from "Resurrection Through Carnage's" "Buried By The Dead." Ultimately, if you
enjoy BLOODBATH, then you're going to love this because the music is very
similar, just not as majestic because Mikael Akerfeldt is not on ENTRAILS'
vocals. Still, the similarities between the two are undeniable. The vocals of
ENTRAILS are more like what is heard on DISMEMBER, as is the musical style:
fast to midpaced with the guitars and vocals overtaking everything else. This is
a blow to clean production, but the fuzziness of the album is extremely
atmospheric and majestic. The track "Triumph Of The Sinner" is finally a place
where the music slows down a bit and the atmosphere takes over. There is a very
slow guitar introduction before the song becomes a very chord driven piece where
the guitars are prominent along with the vocals. There is distorted reverb all
over the place, but that is what creates such an awesome atmosphere.
The two "Death" brother tracks: "Stormy" and "Midnight" throw
things back into the heavier side of the death metal scheme. There's some really
impressive, melodic solos on both, especially "Mightnight Death." The vocals are
really top notch here in how they roar their assent above the music while the
guitars try to keep up. Between the two, "Stormy Death" is the faster while
"Midnight Death" is one of ENTRAILS' more melodic work,opting for more of an IN
FLAMES musical structure. It is good to know that the band draws on all sorts of
Swedish Death Metal influences, which only furthers their promise. The track
"Entrails" does a great job of bringing everything together to give a heavy,
melodic Death Metal track; the solo on this one is just amazing, even if it does
scream BLOODBATH. The vocal echo effects near the end are also a great
addition. Finally, we have "Depression" which is the longest track on the
album, and easily the best atmospherically. The introduction to this song is
haunting and evil, bringing the introduction full circle. Vocals are downright
scary and the tempo is slow and moody: perfect. It's a slow, doom death metal
crawler that doesn't really induce much in the way of mosh pits, fist pumps, or
headbanging, but it is truly mesmerizing. Near the end the female vocals are
what really hits the spot; hopefully ENTRAILS will make more use of it in the
future.
"Reborn" could have very well been a debut album
considering the skills and creativity of these musicians. Fans of gritty,
slower Death Metal will love this. Brutal Death Metal fans may find this
appeasing as well, but the full ferocity isn't there. ENTRAILS is more likely a
band to kill you slowly than make it fast and relentless. Their work is subtle
and the stuff of nightmares, or in most Death Metal fans's cases, dreams.

ENTRAILS is a two man Death Metal project out of France. These guys have been around for a
little while now & have created a good following in the underground scene. The band consists of
Jimmy Lundqvist doing all guitars, bass & programming with Jocke Svensson doing the vocals. They
play an old school style of Death Metal & Thrash Metal mixed together. The music tends to lean
more on the Death Metal side, but the guitars is where the Thrash elements come into play. There
are a lot of fast paced Death grooves with some all out Thrash shredding through out. The vocals are
a mid paced Death drowl style that is sometimes groggy & sluggish. These guys are a little under
rated for how good they really are & should be a lot bigger in the scene than they are!

A l'heure où certains ont déjà enterré le CD comme d'autres avant eux avaient
enterré le vinyl vingt ans auparavant certains n'hésitent pas à faire revivre
des formats qui n'intéressent plus que les nostalgiques, les collectionneurs ou
les vrais amateurs de musique voire les vieux cons, suivant le point de vue où
on se place. Gab' de chez Nihilistic Holocaust est de ceux-là et nous sort des
prods dans l'un des formats les plus abandonnés (du moins dans ceux qui furent
vraiment populaires un jour), la cassette. Ceux qui comme moi ont découvert le
metal durant les années 80 se sont sans doute adonné aux joies du tape-trading
dans la cours du lycée ou encore à l'achat de démos en cassette directement
auprès des groupes, lors des concerts ou... mais voilà que je m'égare dans mes
vieux souvenirs. Revenons-en plutôt à ce qui nous intéresse aujourd'hui:
ENTRAILS.
ENTRAILS est un groupe suédois originaire de Kronobergs län, à
ne pas confondre avec un autre groupe suédois du même nom qui fut fondé à la
même époque mais qui lui nous arrivait de Avesta. Le groupe existe depuis 1991
et cette cassette - également sorti en format CD-R me semble-t-il est la
première démo du groupe. Près de 20 ans pour sortir sa première démo, on ne doit
pas être loin du record du monde. Le groupe avait pourtant enregistré des titres
à l'époque mais n'étant pas satisfait du résultat final, ces morceaux sont
restés inédits. Le groupe a ensuite cessé ses activités jusqu'à ce qu'en 2008,
Jimmy Lundqvist également connu sous le nom de Bloodspill, nostalgique de cette
époque décida de redémarrer le groupe. En fait de groupe il s'agit plutôt d'un
duo, Jimmy Lundqvist s'occupant de tous les instruments et Jocke Svensson, plus
connu pour être le bassiste de BIRDFLESH occupant le poste de
chanteur.
Un an plus tard, le résultat est là, une première démo de 11
titres de pur death metal suédois old-school. Je ne sais pas si tous les titres
présents sur cette démo sont garantis d'origine millésime 1991 mais une chose
est sûre: on se croirait vraiment revenu au début des 90's. Après une intro bien
typée d'époque avec piano, cloche et porte qui grince, on attaque plus de 45
minutes d'un death metal de qualité. On pense bien sûr à ENTOMBED, notamment de
par le logo du groupe qui n'est pas sans rappeler celui d'ENTOMBED mais
également à GRAVE et surtout à DISMEMBER qui semble être l'influence principale
de ENTRAILS. On pense aussi à EDGE OF SANITY pour le côté mélodique. Les
morceaux sont variés, alternant passages lents et parties plus rapides, solos,
mosh parts et parties mélodiques, le tout interprété avec grande conviction par
Jimmy Lundqvist qui n'a vraiment pas perdu la main après toutes ces années. On
regrettera peut-être juste que la batterie soit assurée par une boîte à rythmes.
Même si celle-ci ne sonne pas trop synthétique, un vrai batteur aurait vraiment
été le bienvenu. Le chant est lui aussi très convaincant, Jocke Svensson, se
révèle être un bon growler. Il est parfaitement adapté au style pratiqué par le
groupe, caverneux à souhait. Quelques guests viennent également enrichir
l'ensemble notamment sur l'excellent "Voices" ou encore sur le bonus track
"Depression" (je ne sais pas en quoi c'est un bonus track, ce titre semble
également être présent sur la version CD-R de cette démo) où on peut entendre du
chant clair féminin.
Bref, on tient là une excellente démo de death metal
100% suédois plutôt convaincante même si la qualité est un peu inégale sur cette
démo et que certains titres sortent plus du lot que d'autres. Pas sûr qu'elle
intéresse beaucoup de monde aujourd'hui (même si on peut faire confiance à Gab
pour diffuser très largement ses prods, ma cassette porte tout de même le numéro
449) mais je ne suis pas sûr que si elle était sortie en 1991, dans une scène
très embouteillée le groupe aurait pu se faire remarquer. Aujourd'hui au moins
la concurrence est moins importante et les cassettes existent toujours, que
demander de plus ? Sheb. 3,75/ 5

The
first look on the ENTRAILS logo made me think of ENTOMBED. Only a bit rougher.
Nothing wrong with similarities but how about the music? First of all, this is
not the one from Avesta, but län which seems to be nearby. According to the
bio ENTRAILS was formed in 1991 by Fredde, Tobbe, Billy and Jimmy, died in 1998
and resurrected 2009. From the original line-up only Jimmy
"Bloodspill" is left. I'm glad he did 'cause the demo
"Reborn" tastes like a big juicy lump of flesh in no more than 11
portions including one bonus. The production and instrumentation, done by
Bloodspill himself in his home-studio(!), is very well done, tight and brutal
as hell! Although the guitars tend to rip some attention from the vocals and my
headphone buzzed in the heavy parts, absolutely nothing to complain and it
suits this type of Death Metal just perfectly. The haunting solos give this
brutality more wickedness and stand out to the vicious riffing. Session
vocalist Jocke Svensson (BIRDFLESH, LITANIA, DEVILRY) is growling his guts out.
For "Reborn" a drumcomputer is used which doesn't bother here 'cause
it's well done! A bit like INFESTDEAD did. The songs are quite variating and
heavy. To tell you the truth, some songs needed more listening to fully grab me
than others, but once they do, you're done. And let's not forget this is the
first release and a real promising time warp to the brutal days of Swedeath. As
Jimmy explains in his interview with Nihilistic Holocaust: "My motivations
are nostalgia and a certain anger about Death Metal that have started to get
out of hand and become worse in my point of view, my music is an answer to
that. That is what has given me the strength to come back and start where I
ended playing…" And this is simply what you get: good, solid and brutal
Death Metal! Fans of old HYPOCRISY, INFESTDEAD, DISMEMBER, BLOODBATH and likes
check this out! Actually everyone should check this because tracks like 'The
Morgue', 'Evil Obsession' and 'Breath Of Death' are simply great and timeless!
The lovely dark intro also speaks for itself! I'm looking forward to his (or
their) next release! The band signed to Nihilistic Holocaust, who you might
know from their webzine (interview) and the excellent Reincremation Split CD
(IMPUREZA, ARSONIST, SUDDEN DEATH and INGURGITATING OBLIVION). This demo sells
