DEMONIST: Demonist Tape.
VOICES FROM THE DARKSIDE Webzine: The French Metal scene is blooming and has been for a while, if it ever has been slumbering. Though somehow French bands have a hard time to get beyond their own borders and out into the world. For as long as I can remember there have been French cult bands around, lurking and making noise, but not many getting the full scale of attention they might have deserved. Gabriel and Nihilistic Holocaust have done their part to promote and get French bands out in the big world, on cassette tape. He has been signing and releasing both new names and old and almost forgotten bands, he has been re-releasing some cool dusty and almost forgotten things – and luckily Nihilistic Holocaust continues its quest. DEMONIST is a new band from Nancy, in Northern France, churning out old school Death Metal. This four track EP takes us back to when things were darker and heavier in Death Metal. Though the band isn’t travelling all the way down the nostalgic path, there is a little modern twist and turn here and there. When I write modern, I mean in the manner of brutal tech Death Metal from the start ’00s, with some quirky guitar leads and thundering drum and bass patterns. The riffing is solid and the guitar tone is crunchy, on top of that, there are some good melodies intertwined into the brutality, the bass lines rock and come well through the production, the drumming is powerful and that snare drum sound I approve! The vocals are brutal and well-articulated, most of the lyrics can be picked out. There isn’t a single innovative thing sledged into the four tracks on the release, and that is nice! Solid old school Death Metal with a significant touch of the band’s identity, which will grow stronger with time. I am looking forward to hearing more from this, quite pre- to start ’90s Floridian, with heavy traces of Buffalo, band from the North of France. Enter the coronation of DEMONIST’s domain.
ECHOES FROM THE DEEP Blog: Le Grand Est
THE METAL CRYPT Webzine Demonist is a new French death metal band, formed in 2023, and like many death metal bands these days, they're obviously into old-school death metal, mostly the U.S. East Coast school, meaning brutality and heaviness are front and centre on this EP whose main fault is being short (well, not short for an EP, but you quickly find yourself wanting more once it's over). The growls are deep and mostly undecipherable and fit the band's fat and heavy sound. It's pretty fast stuff overall along with the mandatory slower, heavier, crushing passages, though fast or slow, these guys know how to give your ears a beating. Some of the riffs remind me a bit of mid-80s German thrash—you know, the rawer and dirtier style that set them apart from the mostly cleaner thrash made in the U.S. at the time. There are some elements more reminiscent of post-2000 death metal here as well, and Demonist do a good job of mixing the old and the new(er). For near brutal death metal, the music on Demonist is surprisingly catchy and memorable and gets the head banging and the foot tapping right from the start. Looking forward for more goodies from these guys. 4/5
“Demonist” viene pubblicato in CD dall Crypt Of Dr.Gore e in cassetta dalla Nihilistic Holocaust. Voto: 7,5/10
METAL REVOLUTION Webzine Demonist is
a French old-school Death Metal trio who, by their own admission,
strive to keep alive the standard set by mid-era Morbid Angel. This
has so far been done through a Single that earlier this year evolved
into a four-piece self-titled EP. And true to form, the record was
released on cassette, something antiquated me enjoyed both as a
nice final touch as well as amusing since physical copies delivered
to my boss has to be on CD – So they ripped and burned it for me,
adding the cassette sleeve instead of creating a jewelcase cover
just for the review versions. I love the dedication of it.
BRUTALISM Webzine Demonist are
relatively new to the Metal world; not much is known about them
except they are from France and some of the members were part of
Necroscum until 2023 and then moved on to this band. Presented here
is their first EP- it is very short but showcases what the band
is about. A blend of furious Death Metal with a bit of that ‘old
school’ touch to it, it sounds like a mix of Demiser meets Nile
at times (especially on a track like ‘Slay Them All’) with a touch
of older Deicide. But, one thing is sure is that the band does their
best to draw a lot of different influences to make for a good listen.
There is a lot that goes on here in 17 minuts. The percussive drumming
from Bastion Pocheron rings clear in that Cryptopsy hollow kind
of way alongside the snarls and growls from Paul Clausse who also
does the guitars and the bass is audible right alongside by Alexis
Chateau to bring the fuzzy Grave/ Dismember tones, but not too fuzzy.
gibt es nochmal drei Songs oben drauf; also vier Tracks insgesamt.
on avait déjà notre lot d’énervés.
